The key domestic indices ended slightly higher. Nifty Media, Nifty Realty and Nifty Metal shares advanced, while Nifty IT shares declined.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged higher by 383.55 points or 0.50% to 77,301.40. The Nifty 50 index inched up 149.75 points or 0.63% to 23,960.60. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex soared by 3.94% and 3.82%, respectively.

The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index jumped 1.59% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index registered sharp gains of 2.10%.

The market breadth was encouraging. On the BSE, 3695 shares advanced and 1572 shares fell. A total of 219 shares were unchanged.

HDFC Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 506.78 lakh shares and registered a sharp increase of 63.39% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has surged around 2.94% in last one-month and has fallen sharply 26.91% over last one year.

ITC Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 424.53 lakh shares and posted a sharp rise of 100.50% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has added around 1.86% in last one-month and has lost significant ground 33.83% over last one year.

The Nifty Media index surged 5.15% to 1710.65 today. The index is marginally higher by 0.73% in last one week and has risen slightly by 4.25% over last one month. It has edged higher by 5.57% in last one year. Saregama India Ltd (up 13.27%), Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (up 10.05%), Prime Focus Ltd (up 5.53%), Nazara Technologies Ltd (up 5.47%) and D B Corp Ltd (up 4.73%) jumped.

The Nifty Realty index rose sharply by 2.85% to 865.4 today. The index has surged by 4.52% in last one week and has inched higher by 0.20% over last one month. It has declined by 13.14% in last one year. Lodha Developers Ltd (up 5.77%), Godrej Properties Ltd (up 4.16%), Anant Raj Ltd (up 3.78%), Sobha Ltd (up 3.56%) and Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (up 2.80%) moved up.

The Nifty IT index decreased by 1.50% to 32061.9 today. The index has edged up by 1.13% in last one week and has recorded robust gains of 15.02% over last one month. It is down 8.70% in last one year. Mphasis Ltd (down 2.64%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (down 2.52%), HCL Technologies Ltd (down 2.37%), Wipro Ltd (down 1.74%) and Infosys Ltd (down 1.73%) retreated.

The Nifty Realty index rose for a third session in a row today. Lodha Developers Ltd (up 5.77%), Godrej Properties Ltd (up 4.16%), Anant Raj Ltd (up 3.78%), Sobha Ltd (up 3.56%) and Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (up 2.80%) gained.
