The key domestic indices finished marginally lower. Nifty Realty and Nifty PSU Bank shares rose, while Nifty Auto and Nifty Media shares declined.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, moved lower by 373.93 points or 0.49% to 76,570.35. The Nifty 50 index edged lower by 141.35 points or 0.59% to 23,914.45. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex eased by 1.08% and 0.90%, respectively.

The broader market outpaced the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index posted modest losses of 0.55% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index lost 0.51%.

The market breadth was unfavorable. On the BSE, 2091 shares advanced and 3097 shares retreated. A total of 219 shares were unchanged.

HDFC Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 369.5 lakh shares and registered a modest decline of 1.14% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has dropped sharply 5.46% in last one-month and has fallen sharply 25.11% over last one year.

Coal India Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 341.31 lakh shares and recorded a sharp increase of 190.65% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has fallen sharply by around 3.46% in last one-month and has climbed sharply 6.27% over last one year.

Index action

The Nifty Realty index advanced slightly by 0.21% to 893.15 today. The index has tumbled by 2.89% in last one week and has eased by 2.38% over last one month. It is up around 1.31% in last one year. Phoenix Mills Ltd (up 1.45%), Lodha Developers Ltd (up 1.21%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (up 0.76%) and Anant Raj Ltd (up 0.18%) traded higher.

The Nifty Auto index declined by 1.79% to 27981.95 today. The index has declined by 2.48% in last one week and has posted modest losses of 2.32% over last one month. It gained 11.03% in last one year. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (down 4.59%), Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (down 3.32%), Eicher Motors Ltd (down 3.24%), Uno Minda Ltd (down 3.01%) and Bosch Ltd (down 2.68%) declined.

The Nifty Media index decreased by 1.75% to 1534.1 today. The index has slumped by 3.02% in last one week and has edged lower 0.46% over last one month. It has edged lower by 2.83% in last one year. Saregama India Ltd (down 3.33%), Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (down 3.04%), Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd (down 2.89%), Prime Focus Ltd (down 2.15%) and Tips Music Ltd (down 1.87%) moved lower.

Global Markets

European markets posted a modest rise.

DOW futures are up by 0.24% today.

NIFTY50 futures closed marginally lower by 0.40% at 23995 and are in a premium of 80 points compared to NIFTY50.
