Gift Nifty traded marginally lower, Asian markets posted modest losses

Local stock markets are poised for a slightly weak start today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are modestly lower by 0.14 points, pointing to a subdued start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market edged higher in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 modestly higher.The BSE Sensex has risen slightly 0.60% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has inched higher 0.76% over the same period. In Asia today, sentiment was subdued. China’s SSE Composite Index eased 0.14% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 moved higher 0.85%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index drifted lower 0.84%. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 510 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 4,353 crore in the Indian equity market on 13 August 2026, provisional data showed. Overnight on Wall Street, stocks ticked up across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended higher by 69.78 points, or 0.13%, and closed at 53861.05. The S&P 500 edged up 0.65% to end at 7819.86, and the NASDAQ Composite posted modest gains of 0.81% to 26824.51. Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex ended slightly higher 113.61 points or 0.15% to 78079.96. The Nifty 50 index moved higher by 0 points or remained flat to 24435.95. Tata Consumer Products Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, posting modest gains of 2.69% to Rs 1090.50. The stock has posted modest gains of around 1.43% in last one-week and remains down 10.47% over last one-month. In sectoral indices, only Nifty Bank index remained flat on the day.
