Gift Nifty inched down, Asian markets traded slightly lower

Local stock markets are likely to start on a cautious note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures have edged lower by 0.02 points, hinting at a soft opening for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market posted modest losses in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 marginally lower.The BSE Sensex has moved higher 0.69% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has inched higher 1.08% over the same period. In Asia today, sentiment was mildly weak. China’s SSE Composite Index edged up 0.21% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 inched higher 0.10%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index posted modest losses of 1.15%. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 258 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 24 crore in the Indian equity market on 11 August 2026, provisional data showed. Overnight on Wall Street, stocks drifted lower across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was modestly lower by 184.13 points, or 0.34%, and closed at 53812.85. The S&P 500 eased 0.33% to end at 7748.41, and the NASDAQ Composite posted modest losses of 0.61% to 26464.23. Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex edged lower 388.19 points or 0.49% to 78154.25. The Nifty 50 index slipped 112.10 points or 0.46% to 24471.70. Dr Reddys Laboratories Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, edging up 3.99% to Rs 1205. The stock has posted modest gains of around 1.43% in last one-week and is weaker 10.47% over last one-month. In sectoral indices, only Nifty Pharma index ticked up yesterday, advancing 1.02% on the day.
