Australia's unemployment rate held steady at 4.2% in August 2025, matching market forecasts, even as employment took a surprising hit. The economy shed 5,400 jobs, marking the first decline in three months. Full-time positions dropped sharply by 40,900, while part-time jobs jumped by 35,500, highlighting a shift in hiring trends. The number of unemployed people slipped by 900 to 647,400, with fewer Australians seeking part-time roles but slightly more chasing full-time work.
