Economic Buzz: US initial jobless claims up by 1,000 to 199,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States increased by 1,000 from last week's revised figure to 199,000 in the week ending August 1, the Department of Labor revealed in its report on Thursday. Meanwhile, the 4-week moving average fell by 4,500 from the previous week's revised average to reach 198,750.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending July 25 stood at 1.2%, unchanged from the week before. Meanwhile, the insured unemployed figure for the same week stood at 1,801,000, going up by 24,000 from the previous week's revised figure, and the 4-week moving average was down by 5,000 to land at 1,791,250.
